How we work
Starting 5 is an independent studio in Cape Town. We make the brand, the website and the content around them, so a business looks and works like one business.
Most small businesses end up with a logo from one place, a website from another and social posts from a third. None of it is bad, but none of it quite fits together, so the business never looks as established as it is.
We put those pieces in one place, made by the same team, so a brand, a website, the content around it and the tools behind it all look and work like one business.
Customers do not see them as separate things. They see a business: its logo, its site, its last post, how easy it is to ask for a quote. Handling those together means fewer hand-offs, fewer mismatches and one team that understands the whole picture.
Alongside client projects, we build our own digital products in the Lab: SiteHealth, a website health scanner, and Quotebrook, a WordPress quote-form plugin. We also run RIVAL, an independent sports media brand.

Listen
We start with what the business does, who it serves and what it needs now. Not everything at once, and sometimes less than you expected.
- 02
Agree it in writing
Scope and price are agreed in writing before any design starts, so there are no surprises later.
- 03
Design
Brand and pages are designed from scratch for your business. You see the direction and give feedback before anything is built.
- 04
Build
Websites are built by hand, with no templates or page builders, and tested on phones as well as desktops.

Launch and look after
We launch with you, then keep things current if you want us to. Maintenance is optional and its scope is written down.
You deal directly with the people doing the work. You get plain language, honest advice (including “you don't need that yet”) and a clear next step after every conversation.
We won't promise Google rankings, guaranteed leads or overnight growth, because nobody honest can. We will promise a site that looks the part, works properly and is priced fairly.
Say hello.
Tell us about your business. We'll reply with clear next steps and an honest idea of cost.
